Daily Activities

A typical day at Matlock Bath Pre-school

Our activities are based around a planned theme for each term. Each theme is explored, and where relevant we may link these to the local community, for example by visiting the library, shops or local park. We also take trips on the cable cars to the Heights of Abraham, thanks to the kind support of the owners there!

Our daily activities may include:

Free-Play – which is adult and child-led, including activities such as sand, water, play dough, painting, modelling, jigsaws, games, books, drawing and construction.

Adult Led – staff will work with groups or individual children to practice and develop their skills such as number and letter recognition, maths and speech etc.

Confidence Building – children will be encouraged to make their own choices, share, express their feelings, build friendships and ultimately have fun and enjoy themselves.

Physical Play – outside, and in most weathers, we encourage energetic play using bikes, scooters, balancing equipment, bats and balls, climbing, sliding and much more!

Snack and Lunch Time – a variety of healthy snacks and drinks will be available each day. You will need to provide a packed lunch for your child if they are staying with us for a full day. These are group times where we share news and encourage communication, patience and sharing.

Story/Song Time – During and at the end of the session we gather together to wind down, listen to a story or sing songs and rhymes.
